Few issues have created as much controversy as abortion. The public debate over both ethical and legal aspects of abortion continues to escalate. One can easily find advocates for either side of the debate who can passionately and convincingly argue their case, offering compelling evidence for their position. However, there is always a story behind the story. As the battle rages on, what is the reality in the lives and families of the women who choose abortion as the answer to life's unexpected turns? What are the implications of abortion for the nations who seek solutions for family planning, reproductive health and population control? Is abortion one of many viable options for birth control, or are there consequences for nations who embrace abortion which the advocates of abortion would prefer not become widely known?
Can the issue of abortion be simplified down to a question of personal choice, or are there farther-reaching consequences? What are the global implications of abortion? Harvest Media is privileged to have the opportunity to weigh in on this important issue through the production of an independent, documentary film. This documentary production will explore the above questions along with many others in an attempt to understand the truth about abortion and it's global impact. It will also share compelling stories of women and their families who have experienced, firsthand, both the repercussions of abortion and the joys of choosing life despite adversity. Worldwide, 46 to 50 million children lose their lives to abortion each year. Vietnam has the #1 abortion rate in the world: 83 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15-44. This is triple the U.S.’s abortion rate of 23. In Romania, three out of four pregnancies end in abortion. Some Russian women have had as many as 30 abortions. Communist Soviet Union was the first nation to legalize abortion in 1920. In Russia, abortion has been the main method of birth control since 1955. Up to 1/3rd of Russian abortions result in the death of the mother. (for more information on abortion worldwide, go to LifeInternational.com) We will be traveling around the world early next year, documenting the impact of abortion on these and other nations like Hungary, where the legal age of sexual consent is 14. We will be investigating the impact of abortion on the economy, society and culture of nations like China and Vietnam, where population policies of one to two children per family and ultrasounds and abortion on demand, lead many to practice sex selection prenatally, creating a generation of many more boys than girls. We will be sending out regular updates on this project via email newsletters. If you are interested in receiving them, sign up below. |
