Exus is a spiritual formation program that challenges Christian young men and women using intentional discipleship, extreme adventures, and community living.  Exus is located in the Sierra Madre mountains in Chihuahua, Mexico.  Harvest Media is producing a promotional video for Exus. Gary and Rich spent a few days in the mountains in Chihuahua, filming the Exus program in November. Alvaro, who was one of the students in Exus when we did the filming, has a background in video editing himself, so we asked him if he would like to come up to Tucson to help out with this project.  He was eager to do so and was an immense help, since the video was produced in Spanish, and he was very familiar with the Exus program, having gone through it himself.  The video, which they will distribute on DVD, will also be on their website, and will have the intended purpose of interesting college aged students to their program. Check back soon to see the finished product!

Becoming a woman of simplicity book imageWith personal warmth and solid biblical teaching, author and speaker Cynthia Heald helps equip women for their personal and spiritual journey as she invites them to consider that the goal -- the heart of God and a heart for God -- is well worth the investment of thought and time. Her bestselling "Becoming a Woman of..." Bible study series explores God's idea of Excellence, Freedom, Purpose, Prayer, and Grace, Faith, Simplicity and Love. Cynthia has developed a Bibles study based on her book, Becoming a Woman of Simplicity, which has become very popular. She would like to produce this study as a DVD series.

Harvest Media will be partnering with Cynthia Heald and Navpress to produce the new Becoming a Woman of Simplicity DVD study series. We will be filming the study with a small gorup of women in a beautiful home in the foothills of Tucson. We will be filming in April and editing over the next couple of months. We are looking forward to seeing this exciting project impact women around the world.

Seed Company Project in Production
Written by Evan Davis
Monday, 14 December 2009 08:07

The Seed Company project is finally in production. Seed Company, an affiliate of Wycliffe Bible Translators, has asked Harvest Media to develop a donor video targeting donors to whom social justice issues are important. This video will highlight the social transformational power of the Word of God once translated into the heart language of a people.

We have completed the script and are scheduling trips to Ghana, Peru and Texas for filming. We will be highlighting two people groups who have experienced significant social and economic transformation as a result of Bible Translation:

FareFare people group– Northern Ghana:

Located in NorthEast Ghana– trip scheduled January 6-16.
Before Bible Translation: 30 to 40 years ago, marginalized, fear of ancestral spirits prevented the people from thriving, preliterate/illiterate, few schools, half million population, backwards in social and infrastructural development, considered just above animals, underdeveloped, no roads, electricity, hospitals, animistic and fatalistic worldview, divine determined majority of important life decisions.

After Bible Translation: Thriving economically, highly literate, roads, electricity, schools, well developed infrastructure.

Ticuna people group– Peru:

Trip scheduled in mid February.
Before Bible translation: High infant mortality rates (@ 50%), animistic, tree spirits, witch doctors influenced important life decisions, living in open huts with thatched roofs, no wells, roads, infrastructure, alcoholism was deeply woven into the social fabric, prevalent fighting, violence, domestic violence, zero percent literacy.

After Bible Translation: Infant mortality very rare, beautiful village with roads and homes with walls, town square, schools, almost 100% literacy, college graduates, wells, infrastructure, very little alcoholism and violence.

Leverage event

I have been invited to participate in an event in Colorado Springs, called Leverage, put on by the Visual Story Network, of which I am a member. Leverage is an invitation-only gathering of six global ministries with five world-class "visual innovators" to help each ministry take strides toward more effective visual outreach. I have been invited to sit on the panel as one of the five visual innovators.

The goals of the Leverage event are as follows:

Each ministry develops a greater vision for what is possible in visual communication.
Each organization leaves with three concrete steps to help them transition to greater visual effectiveness.
Each organization is equipped with relationships and tangible resources to help them move forward.
After 6 months, three organizations can identify how they are adapting to a visual world.

The six ministries attending this event are Greater Europe Mission, International Bible Society, Navigators, World Venture, Christian and Missionary Alliance  and Youth Partners Net.

I feel very privileged to have been chosen as one of the five innovators and deeply desire that God would use me to direct and challenge these ministries towards His heart for how to use the diverse communication technologies and storytelling methods available to us today to advance His kingdom and accomplish the Great Commission. We know that God has created us to be creative, and there has never been a greater need for new and innovative ways of using the incredible media technologies available today to reach the nations for Christ.

The event will be held in Colorado Springs on the 20th-21st of April.

Etnopedia is an editable website for an international community to translate ethnic people profiles into other languages. Its purpose is to inform Evangelical/Protestant Christians taking the Gospel of Christ to unreached peoples. Etnopedia has finished over 2,500 ethnic people profiles in other languages.

Etnopedia hopes to build a large body of editors and researchers to improve the research process while translating unreached people profiles into as many other languages as possible. Etnopedia has asked Harvest Media to help them develop a recruitment tool to mobilize more translators from around the world to get involved. They also want a short promotional video to inform the missions community about their service.

Global Media Outreach

Global Media Outreach logo imageGlobal Media Outreach is a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International formed to present the good news of Jesus Christ over the Internet. Every day, thousands of people come to one of their websites. Many are searching for God; some have specific questions; others just want to know more. They present the gospel in over 100 languages. In many languages, they have volunteer responders available for those who e-mail them. GMO's goal is to help those who contact them find Christ and then to help them grow in their Christian faith and become connected to a local church.

GMO's flagship discipleship website is www.iChristianLife.com. GMO has asked Harvest Media to assist them in producing a new series of IPTV programs that will air on iChristianLifeTV.com. These programs will be designed to disciple new believers; enrich existing believers and challenge non-believers to embrace the Gospel and surrender their lives to Christ.

The Harvest Media crew will be setting up and lighting the studio at the GMO headquarters outside of San Fransisco and will be filming the first three pilot programs in early May. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of developing media outreach tools that have the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of new believers worldwide.

New Project for Wycliffe's The Seed Company
Written by Evan Davis

The Seed Company logo image The Seed Company’s mission is to complete Bible translations in the heart languages of people without God’s Word through partnering with: national colleagues, prayer supporters and investors and like-minded organizations. Their vision is to creatively network God's people around the world to translate the Bible into every language for his glory.

While most of us can name 10 or even 20 different languages, there are actually over 6,900 languages currently spoken in the world today. Of that number, less than half have any portion of Scripture available in any accessible form. Of the remaining languages, over 2,200 need a translation and represent approximately 196 million people. More than just numbers, these are individual people without access to the life-giving, life-changing hope and power of God’s Word. Each language is unique and perfectly suited for the person who uses it, thinks in it, and identifies himself with it. Often people learn a national language for trade or other purposes, but for understanding deep and meaningful concepts they need the language they learned first—their heart language.

The Seed Company has set a goal of beginning translation in an additional 225 languages in the next three years. Ambitious? Yes! Impossible? Humanly speaking, yes. But that’s where faith and passion meet. By connecting supporting individuals, groups and churches with national translators and their projects, we can speed up the production of clear and accurate Scripture for those without it. It’s a great goal with eternal results!

Harvest Media is privileged to partner with The Seed Company and contribute to this exciting mission through the production of a promotional video with the goal of educating potential donors on the social and economical impact and cultural transformation unreached peoples experience once they have the word of God translated into their heart language. This 8 to 10 minute video will be a key educational tool to raise support and increase exposure for The Seed Companies ambitious vision to begin Bible translation projects in an additional 225 languages in the next three years.

An added bonus to this project is an opportunity to work with Contexture International, an incredibly talented media design and production firm who have developed some very impressive communication tools for The Seed Company in the past. We look forward to collaborating with and learning from the Contexture team.
